The Calabasas couple accused of involvement in the killing of an El Camino Real High School student were involved in volatile relationship and a life of crime, according to police.

The Los Angeles Police department will  spending a second day searching the Calabasas Landfill in Agoura Hills on Thursday morning to search for the gun believed to be used in the murder of Francisco “Panco” Rodriguez.

The LAPD did not disclose what information prompted the search.

Jason Schuman, 25, was arraigned Wednesday, January 18,  for murder.

Rodriguez, 17, was shot three times in the front yard of his Cozycroft Avenue home in Winnetka on Wednesday, January 11.

On Wednesday, Schuman appeared in court on murder charges. He is being held without bail at the L.A. Inmate Reception Center. His formal arraignment was postponed until February 2.

Ibarra, 19,  has not been charged and is being held without bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility on an alleged probation violation.

According to police, Ibarra met Rodriguez at a party in the summer of 2011 while her boyfriend, Shuman, was incarcerated for forging identification documents.

Ibarra and Rodriguez subsequently began some sort of relationship, the details of which are unclear. Schuman is believed to have become aware of the relationship after his release from jail in August 2011.

Students of Rodriguez at El Camino Real Senior High reported about a love triangle between Rodriguez and Ibarra, and then Ibarra and Shuman.

“A lot of people thought that he was flirting with her and that’s what triggered everything” said Arielle Adams told CBS 3 News. “And that he just stopped and that upset the boyfriend, or it upset her and she told the boyfriend.”

A profile photo on Ibarra’s Facebook page shows a sexually suggestive comment made by Rodriguez.

In September 2011, Ibarra was arrested for cashing forged checks.

“She just doesn’t care and continues to victimize people by means of fraud and theft,” Judge Karen Nudell said at the time, according to court transcripts. Nudell sentenced Ibarra on Nov. 17 to 180 days in jail and three years of supervised probation. She was released on December 1.

Upon her release, the Daily News reports she became aware that Schuman had fathered a child with another woman. She and Schuman have an 18-month-old son in common, according to Facebook.

Schuman is the father of two other children, ages 4 and younger than than 1-year-old, according to his attorney, Alec Rose.

Ibarra vented her displeasure on Facebook.

“He’s a sik [sic] cheating son of a bitch!” Ibarra wrote on a picture of Schuman and their baby on her Facebook in January 2011.

She added: “Makes me gag! Makes me just plain! sik!!! I can’t stand looking at him! Or hearing him! … Love has become hate…”

The Daily News reported that Ibarra, perhaps out of sense of revenge, told Schuman she was still seeing Rodriquez.

Police believe that on January 11, a woman with red hair came to the Rodriguez household and asked for Rodriguez by name. When Rodriguez stepped into the front yard, he was shot and killed.

Police suspect the woman was Ibarra and that she dyed her hair brown after the incident. Police also believe that Ibarra’s green SUV was used as a getaway vehicle.

Court records revealed that both Schuman and Ibarra have extensive criminal histories.

Schuman’s previous arrests include assault with a deadly weapon, battery, drug charges, possession of a handgun, resisting arrest, making terrorist threats, and attempted robbery.

Ibarra has previously been arrested for forgery, battery, and identity theft.
