Fallen Soldier Remembered

September 3, 2010

Hundreds of people gathered Wednesday night at the Westlake High School football field to remember A.J. Castro.

β€œHe was one of the nicest students I ever knew here,” said John Ford to the Ventura County Star, as he stood with a candle in his hand and recalled U.S. Army Spc. Andrew Jordan β€œA.J.” Castro.

The 2008 Westlake High School graduate was killed Saturday by an improvised explosive device.

Castro, 20, who was the son of former booster club president Hectro Castro was a U.S. Army Specialist in the 101st Airborne Division.

Last year, former Westlake Football player, Frankie Toner, 26, who was a Navy lieutenant, died in Afghanistan.
