Council Votes to Resurface Agoura Hills Thoroughfare Using New Paving Process

March 15, 2010

Agoura Hills City Council unanimously voted last Wednesday to resurface a section of Thousand Oaks Boulevard using a new process that is both greener and less expensive than traditional methods.

As part of its yearly Street Rehabilitation Project, the city will restore and repair the part of the road that runs from the western part of the community to where Thousand Oaks Boulevard—which experiences higher traffic volume than streets repaired in previous years—intersects with Argos Street near Agoura High School.

The city will use a process known as cold in-place recycling to resurface the street, which has had no significant repairs of this magnitude since it was installed 30-plus years ago. The new process is less expensive and quicker to finish than other resurfacing processes; additionally, it conserves the entirety of the existing pavement.

Westlake Village will provide some of the funding for the costs and plans to start an overlay project of its own in June; Agoura Hills will start its project the following month. The two cities plan to use the same contractor so the communities can garner better prices, according to Agoura Hills Assistant City Manager Nathan Hamburger.
